Residency and Exhibition: The Soil we live of

Invitation to Open studio – Come to the ground
Sunday, 12th of August
2 – 6 pm
Academy for Sufficiency, Groß Pankower Weg 7, 16928 Tüchen-Reckenthin

On Sunday, 12th of August, from 2 to 6 pm, the three temporary artists from Reckenthal will let themselves be seen in the studios. Irene Hoppenberg, Matthias Fritsch and Kirsten Wechslberger invite you to an exchange about their artistic work and the links between art and ecology.
The topic of this year’s visit is ‘soil’: the outer layer of the Earth’s outer layer is sealed, damaged by erosion and condensed by industrial agriculture. Soil loses the storage capacity, the filter function, the variety of life. That’s the ground we live on.
The invited artists work for one month at the Academy for Sufficiency in Reckenthin on this topic. On the occasion of the Open Studio, they share their impressions of the village and show their first work status. Sketches, models, photos, video material – the artistic processes reveal themselves in fragments and conversations. This way, visitors also get interesting detours and rejected ideas. Not the end product is the focus here, but the steps there. The finished works will be on view from August 24 in the project space Group Global 3000 in Berlin.
The host is the Academy for Sufficiency, Groß Pankower Weg 7, 16928 Tüchen-Reckenthin. Here guests are invited to get to know ecologically and socially responsible business practices and to experience them in a very practical way. Topic for Residency and Exhibition: The Soil we live of

Residency and exhibition deal with connotations of soil and ground as environment and as subject to human invasion. The outer layer of our planet is being sealed with concrete, the humus is being degraded by industrial agriculture. Synthetic fertilizer is a drug for the soil. The soil looses its capacity to accumulate water and to host a broad variety of species. Works of all genres are possible, such as object, photographie, video, installation, sound, performance, painting, drawing. Open Call for Residency and Exhibition “The Soil we live of ”

The call addresses artists working in the field of sustainability and economy. We understand sustainability as respecting planetary boundaries and as orienting oneself towards goals of social justice. Economy we define as organising human provisioning. How we organise this much determines if and how we respect planetary boundaries and if social justice is possible at all.
